The hammock can be secured with a hook either into a concrete ceiling or into a girder in a wooden ceiling. You can purchase the hook for both types of ceilings in our webshop. When the weather is great the hammock can be used outdoors as well. Just find a tree and you can secure the hammock to a branch with the carbine at the end of the rope. Please note that the hammock mustn’t be secured into a plasterboard ceiling!
The first time when babies meet with the hammock is extremely important and determining. It should happen when the baby isn’t hungry or tired. At the first occasion, parents should show the babies the hammock and talk a bit about what is going to happen. Then they should kneel or sit next to the hammock, so the parents’ upper body is in alignment with the hammock. It’s advised to be calm and to show a positive attitude, laugh and smile to the baby. At the very first time, there should be no swinging at all, babies should be only slowly cradled, then the baby can be used to the gentle up and down movement of the swing as well. Once the baby is used to being in the hammock, parents can swing them dynamically. The hammock should be used with a spring that is for the baby’s weight.
Once babies get familiar with the hammock they are happy to sleep in it, since the gentle movements and the cradling of the hammock soothe them and they fall asleep easily. Just start rocking and swinging the baby.
The hammock also helps in getting to know our babies' sleep cycle a lot better, and it deepens the connection between babies and parents. The latter is especially true when they use the hammock not only for sleeping but for playful and fun activities such as singing and playing together.
The ADAMO baby hammock is safe to use from the movement parents arrive home with the newborn baby from the hospital. It replaces the crib and it’s combined with a swing. In South-American countries, a cradle is used in incubators as they know that swinging for premature babies helps in gaining weight faster and being more balanced. Babies with belly aches forget about the unpleasant feelings in their tummies and they calm down easily. Babies sink into the soft fabric, this hugging feeling is really comfortable for them. The head rests on s soft surface so it won’t get any pressure. However, it’s really important that if we notice our baby often is in an asymmetric position (the baby’s head is always turning to the same direction, or the baby is in a C-shaped posture) then please consult with an expert before using the hammock.
This depends on the baby’s age, interest, and vestibular maturity. There are some little children who are super sensitive to the stimulus of balance, and there are others who enjoy and even request the hammock from the very first time. Babies should spend actively 10-15 minutes in the hammock 3-4 times during the day. However, it’s important for toddlers who are already crawling that the legs should be put out from the hammock through the designated holes so they are not able to fall out of the hammock. Always make sure not to loose the baby out of your sight!
Babies lay vertically in the hammock which means that the spines are not under pressure. When babies sit in the hammock by themselves then they are matured enough to do so, so it’s not a problem.
Yes, babies can sleep in the hammock, but parents should make sure that they don’t get used to this way of sleeping exclusively. Babies can sleep in the hammock during the day, however, they shouldn’t be sleeping in the hammock during night times, as supervision is highly recommended and needed.
The space for the legs should be opened when we see that the baby is not comfortable in the hammock anymore, or then the baby is able to roll over. Later, when babies are able to sit by themselves, they can use their legs to swing themselves in the hammock.
Yes. When babies are able to sit up by themselves then we can let them practice. Once they are exhausted, they can lay down on their backs so this is not at all a forced position opposed to children who are sitting against pillows on the ground.
We could write pages on this topic. Several studies were published about the benefits of using a hammock. It’s important to highlight that children’s vestibular system in the ear is in immediate connection with the nervous system. A. J. Ayres spent years with researching this topic and even developed a therapy based on his findings. His therapy helps to treat problems sich as difficulties with behavior, movement, and learning.
The balance skills of children improve when they move aside from the center and they find their way back to it. Toddlers use certain muscles, but they also have to learn to ease others. This muscle coordination is necessary for them to be able to move in an aligned way. These early influences are the base of coordinated movements and the ability of speech and other skills.
From a therapeutic point of view, we would suggest moving the hammock into every direction to affect the vestibular system: up and down, back and forth, left and right, and circular movements.
However, the thought is right that moving the hammock in a left to right direction would move the baby from the center. A more effective method to help babies in rolling over is to lay them on a blanket on the bed. From this position, we can move the blanket upwards on one side so they roll over their belly and then by raising the blanket forwards, they’ll roll over again. Iw there is a possibility to do this with another person, then the blanket can be used to swing the baby.
Yes. The ADAMO hammock can be easily secured to the ceiling with a hook. Several hooks can be used in the rooms of our home, so the hammock can be moved from one place to another easily. The stand can be used until the baby reaches 10 kilograms, later we should provide more space for the baby for more fun and a limitless progress.
The ADAMO hammock can be used for children between the age of 0-3 years, or until the baby reaches 15 kilograms. These two criteria are fulfilled roughly at the same time. Newborns gain weight relatively fast, but this process slows dow and most children reach 15 kilograms at the age of 3. It’s still not late to get a hammock, you’ll be able to use it for long.
The placement of the shorter and the longer bars is always a topic for arguments between parents. At first, the shorter bar should be put to the lower position so babies are able to see their environment and they are able to follow their parents with their gaze. Later, when they are able to sit up by themselves, it becomes more important where the bars are placed. For a safe use, the shorter bar should be in alignment with the babies’ shoulders. This should be decided individually for each baby.
The adjustable rope is one of the most important safety elements of the hammock. Its importance is highlighted when babies are able to sit. The hammock should be adjusted in a way that the baby’s feet can't reach the floor. It might be necessary to adjust the rope even every day - accordingly to the baby’s growth.
When the hammock is well-adjusted the baby’s center point of gravity is located at the front of the hammock, so the bar at the front is aligned with the baby’s shoulders. The result is that they can’t climb or fall out of the hammock. This height adjustment makes the baby want to spring.
The hammock should not be adjusted in a way that the children’s feet are fully on the ground.
Unfortunately, we know about several distributors who try to sell products that are almost identical to the original ADAMO hammock. However, most of these hammocks don’t have an adjustable rope. Please be careful.
We always develop our products with care and we make sure to listen to feedbacks from parents. We got a lot of feedback about how the growth of babies make it more difficult to pet them in and take them out of the hammock. With the use of the crossbars it can be done more easily and faster, so we suggest using this type of hammock.
